Pet Peeve -- Inside Voices
I'd like to think we've come a long way from the shoe box sized grey cell phones Zack Morris used in Saved By the Bell, however, people still feel the need to yell into their phones in public places. The speakers and mics on phones/pda's nowadays are really good and are very sensitive....so why are you yelling? I went to brunch the other day and a woman was having a conversation that could wake the dead. And I'm not so upset about her talking on the phone in a restaurant, although in nice restaurants you should ALWAYS put your phone away. This was more of a diner, so it wasn't so bad. This woman was sitting a good 20 feet away from me, however I could hear every word of her conversation. What makes people speak like they are in a wind tunnel when on cell/mobile phones?
What ever happened to "using your inside voice"??? It's a lesson we learned in kindergarten and it still holds true today. Believe me, no one wants to hear who it is going to pick up the kids, or you giving someone else directions to your location, or which one of your kids slapped the other.
I can be (at times) a food/restuarant snob. I like to eat out and enjoy my meal and enjoy my restaurant experience. So if you're talking loud enough for the entire place to hear you and you're sitting halfway across the room, be prepared to catch a dirty look and maybe even a left hook. Unless your President Obama, keep your mobile phone in your purse or pocket, and if you absolutely have to take the call, excuse yourself and move to a more private area...it's just common fricken courtesy.
