In Loving Memory of Mrs. Antoinette Caternor

On Dec. 22, 2007 at approximately 5:45pm, Mrs. Antoinette Caternor passed from this world. Mrs. Caternor is the mother of one of my closest friends. She was a mother to me as well as her own 3 children. She was a loving mother and wife. I've known and been a member of the Caternor family for the past 18 years. And for all of those 18 years, Mrs. Caternor has showered her endless love and affection upon me as if I was one of her own children. When I needed work, she gave me a job at the YMCA child care center. When I needed a home cooked meal, she would make me the best plate of jerk chicken on earth. When I needed advice, she spoke to me with compassion and love.

For two years, Mrs. Caternor battled breast cancer. After a promising remission a year after diagonsis, the cancer returned and never left. Mrs. Caternor's will to live and fight remained until her final hours. I know she yearned to hold on just long enough for family to make the trip from Antigua, but the cancer has spread too much. I was lucky enough to be able to spend her last hours on earth with her and her family at a local hospice. Although I was greatful to be there and to pray with her, it pained me to see the woman who I've known for most of my life to be a vivaciaous, firery, humorous and loving person, in an almost vegitative state. I'd like to think that she knew I was there. That she knew how much I loved her and how much I appreciated her being there for me. She is survived by her husband, Seth, and three children AC, Robert and Gift. But in addition to her 3 children, Mrs. Caternor was a mother to many. many more.

I ask everyone to support Breast Cancer research. Save The Ta-Tas is an organization that sends 5% of their gross sales towards breast cancer research. Every little bit helps in the fight against breast cancer. I pray that God holds Mrs. Antoinette Caternor close, and protects her as she slips from this world into the next.

!!!ACHTUNG!!! NEW MIX AVAILABLE FOR DOWNLOAD !!!ACHTUNG!!!

YES, it is true!! I am posting a new almost hour long mix for your listening pleasure. Now anyone who knows me, knows that I've been searching for new sounds and music. Well my endeavors have lead many places, including into the world of Funky 70's inspired house, Afro-Beat and Rio Biale.

This mix is a combination of all those genres. It was recorded live from Fly Lounge (http://www.flyloungedc.com/) last Thursday. Now with that being said, be advised it is a live recording. The sound quality is good, but one song actually skips (YES! it is an ACTUAL record!). Most, if not all these songs, were recorded from wax. So you get that authentic snap, crackle, and pop of REAL vinyl! In addition, you also get some skipping. Mea Culpa!

You'll hear some tracks from artists like Gil Scott Heron, Herbie Handcock, Beatconductor, Elvis Presley, and Fela Kuti. Let me know what you think! you can email me at azammirza1@gmail.com or you can leave a comment on this blog. I'm going to try to do some more recordings, incorporating some new music with some old classics.

Happy Holidays and Eid Mubarak!!

Ghostface Killa - The Big Doe Rehab

Ghostface is a hardworking man! This is his third album in two years! If you a fan of Fishscale and More Fish your more than likely gonna like his newest effort The Big Doe Rehab. Although I'm a sucker for cheeky 70's samples and Ghostface's signature delivery, I would have to rate this my least favorite out of the three. Not to say it's not good, I personally feel that Fishscale and More Fish were just more superior efforts. Judge for yourself and check it out. There are some definite nostalgic jams on this album, reminding me of the ol' Wu Tang days. Method Man, Raekwon, U-God and Cappadonna (didn't know he was out of jail) make their obligatory appearences. Chrissette Michelle has a nice cameo worth checking out as well.

Holding true to those soul samples is Supa GFK, using Johnny "Guitar" Watson's classic Superman Lover. Those soul classics are just that.....classics!

Cheers!

PS...There will be a new mix posted, so check back often. Peace.

Jaicee Photography

Finally, after a long sabbatical, my boy Jaicee is back taking photos. He came by Fly last night and took ALOT of pictures of yours truly. I've only gotten to see one or two of them, but they look GREAT!! Jaicee is one of the most talented photographers I've seen!!! It's not often that you find a person with great talent, and a great personality. As soon as I get pics, they will be posted. If you want a sample, he took the pictures of me with the fisheye lens in the DJ booth.

Inde Bleu tonight, Fly tomorrow. See you soon! Cheers!

Bills vs. Skins

I know it' s been a long time since I've posted (Mea Culpa!) and I've promised a new mix and it is coming! I've done some recordings from the club, but am not satisfied with the quality, so I'm gonna work out the kinks before posting it.

I went to the Bills/Skins game on Sunday, and anyone who knows me knows I'm a huge Bills fan. After all, it is my hometown! The game was GREAT!!! Obviously it was very emotional with the death of Sean Taylor (may God be with you), but a football game had to be played. It wasn't an offensive clinic, but they Bills pervailed in a last second field goal (helped along by Gibbs' incompetence!). We had a great time, got to see my friend Rob Royal (number 84 tight end) and hang out on the field before the game. My friend Tariq (http://www.jungleestylee.com/) got us field passes from his friend Gibran Hamdan (number 10 for the bills, backup QB). It was a great experience to be on the field. These players are soo much bigger in person!

UPDATE: I will be starting a new night next week (subject to change). As of right now, I am scheduled to do Tuesday nights at Tatoo. A new bar/club opening up across the street from Lotus (14th and K st NW). I will keep you posted. Please come out and support your boy!
