The wonder of Stevie!! and Park Place

Saw Stevie Wonder last night at the Verizon Center. It was one of the most amazing performances I've ever seen. The Verizon Center was electric!! All in attendence stood for most of the 2 and a half hour show that showcased Stevie's wonderful personality as well as his incredible career. Mixing his soft classic ballads with his timeless uptempo hits, he truly is the world's 8th Wonder!

I will be djing tonight at Marc Barnes' new spot Park Place. Located around the corner from Lotus, on 14th street (btw K and I st. NW). Come by and check it out, if your not out stealing candy bags from little kids.

Cheers!

Walk for DILLA!

"J Dilla had suffered for over three years with an incurable blood disease, and had also been diagnosed with lupus. He leaves behind a body of work which will be loved and rediscovered for years to come. His 2 most recent albums are "Donuts" which was released on February 7th, the day of his 32nd birthday, and "The Shining" (BBE) was released in August 2006. We're asking all you wonderful people to help the cause by joining us. Come out and walk, sponsor a walker or team, giving a donation (even a dollar helps), volunteering at an event. You can walk alone, join a team, or even start your own walk team. Better yet, support the fight against Lupus and celebrate Dilla Dawg but starting an ALR Walkathon team of your own and naming it "J.Dilla Project". Walk With Us!"

The walk is Saturday November 3rd in Washington DC for more information click Here!

Pure, Sexual, Raw FUNK!

I just recently got my hands on a copy of Betty Davis' "They Say I'm Different" (1974), and she was not lying! I've been meaning to give this LP a listen ever since that article about her in WaxPoetics.

The album is driven by funky guitar riffs and cleaver basslines. Davis' voice is raw and passionate throughout the entire album.

"Betty Davis is the funk," says poet and rapper Saul Williams"It's not just that she's sexy and the music is sexy, but she's just so in the pocket! The notes she chose, the placement, to be able to dance around the music. Man, she killed that shit."

"They Say I'm Different" was ahead of it's time, and may still be.

Scion Route 7 Film Series

The Scion Route 7 Film Series continues this Wednesday with a screening of "Bling: A Planet Rock". This will be held at the AFI theatre in Silver Spring Maryland From 8pm to 12 midnight.

Synopsis: "This 90-minute documentary takes a hard-hitting look at how the flashy world of commercial hip hop played a significant role in the 10-year civil war in Sierra Leone, West Africa. BLING follows three hip-hop celebrities: Raekwon (Wu Tang Klan), Paul Wall and Reggaetón king, Tego Calderon. They visit the capital of Freetown where they survey the devastated country, meet the hip hop community, as well as encounter refugees and former child soldiers first hand. "

I believe it is a free event. I'm not sure if there is a need to RSVP, at the last event there was no RSVP. And of course the reception will be Dj'd by yours truely!

Hope to see you all out there!!

Cheers!

[adult swim]

I love adult swim. Not just because the cartoons are hilarious, but because the creators are hip hop heads! Once example of this is a release of a free EP called Chocolate Swim .

And if you don't know, they are the ones behind the "DangerDoom" album, the "Warm and Scratchy" and "Chrome Children" compilations.
Check it out.. here are two tracks...

Happy Friday!

Now Friday's are definitley something to be celebrated!!

Just an update, I will be at Inde Bleu Tonight and Fly Lounge on Saturday. However, my Sunday night at Ibiza has been cancelled due to issues between promoters and owners. So with that being said, I hope to see everyone out and about this weekend, and feel free to say "hi" when you see me in the streets!

Happy Tuesday !

Well, there really isn't anything happy about Tuesdays. In any case, Sunday night at Ibiza was great! It was my first time there, and it is a really beautiful spot! I encourage all to come out and support Sundays at Ibiza!

If you didn't know, Common and Q-Tip will be performing at Sonar in Baltimore on Wednesday, my man DJ P-Funk will be gracing the wheels o' steel! Check it out if you can make it up there, should be a good show.

On a completely unrelated topic, someone please let me know what the hell Isiah Thomas is talking about?
From slamonline.com
Asked if he was bothered by a black man calling a black female “bitch,” Thomas said: “Not as much. I’m sorry to say, I do make a distinction.”
“A white male calling a black female a bitch is highly offensive,” Thomas said. “That would have violated my code of conduct.”
“Maybe I shouldn’t go there. … A white male calling a black female, that is wrong with me. I’m not taking that. I’m not accepting that … That’s a problem for me.”

WHAT THE HELL?? Are you serious Isiah?? I love the Knicks, but Isiah is making it hard as hell to root for them!
Till next time..
